Find out more about how Pittsburgh Technical Institute can help get you started on your career path. Tell us a little about yourself and a program that might interest you, and we’ll be in touch!
PTI recognizes that for many adults life is hectic, full of work and family commitments that dictate where and when they can go to school. To help, we're offering several of our programs both on-ground and on-line. It doesn't matter where you live or when you can make time to attend class and study — early in the morning, late at night, your lunch hour — the curriculum is the same; you choose the delivery format and schedule that best fits your lifestyle and learning style.
PTI's online programs provide both synchronous and asynchronous access to instructors and course materials. To encourage your progress and learning, classes are scheduled on a quarterly basis and assignments have specific deadlines. You learn when and how to make going to school online work for you, and we'll do our part to help you move forward.
PTI has offered career education since 1946 and is recognized by employers, graduates, parents, teachers, counselors and the higher education community as a leading provider of hands-on, career-specific on-ground programs. Our online curriculum mirrors that of our
on-ground offerings — in a format that may better suit your needs.
The Blackboard Learning Management System — a goal-oriented, project-driven educational tool — is your one-stop access point for all your classroom needs.
The online Wimba classroom allows you to join your instructor for live, interactive sessions, or access recorded classes later, at your convenience.
You determine how you learn best: video, email, discussion boards, chat rooms, textbooks, telephone and other communication methods are available. Downloadable MP3 and MP4 formats allow you to access classroom presentations anytime, anywhere — a PTI education on-the-go.
A practicum requirement at the end of your chosen program allows you to gain practical, professional experience in your field by applying the theories, concepts and skills you've learned to real-world situations.
Three orientation sessions provide advance preparation for your online study: technical orientation gets you logged into the system, Blackboard orientation gives you the opportunity to get acclimated using this technology, group orientation introduces you to your online classmates as you all participate in your first visit to the Wimba classroom.
Online classes are taught by instructors experienced in delivering content in the online arena. Many are the same full-time and adjunct PTI instructors that teach at PTI's North Fayette Campus and Cranberry Campus. They have worked or continue to work in the field so they understand what it takes to be successful.
An advisory board of industry professionals guides curriculum for each PTI program, whether offered on-ground or online, so you learn what you need.
A full-time Career Services department assists with job placement no matter the distance. We have great industry connections nationwide and even across the borders.
