Surgical Technology
CCAL School of Healthcare
Surgical Techs work closely with surgeons, anesthesiologists, nurses and other surgical personnel to deliver patient care before, during and after surgery. Your daily work includes direct patient involvement in surgery as well as many pre- and post-operative responsibilities.
Pre- and Post-op: creating a sterile field, prepping the operating room for surgery, setting up surgical instruments, scrubbing and gowning, tearing down the operating room
Surgery: sterilizing the point of incision, passing instruments to the surgeon, keeping track of materials used during surgical procedures, post-operative patient care

What can I do with a degree in Surgical Technology?
Most Surgical Techs work in hospitals, but other employment opportunities include:
- Ambulatory (outpatient) care centers
- Medical centers
- Private employment with a surgeon
- Product development and sales
- Research

What do I need to get in?
An interest in Surgical Technology and your high school diploma. No diploma? We accept GED recipients too. Ask us how you can earn yours. You also need to meet specific entrance requirements for admission and pass a required background check. Schedule an appointment to meet with an admissions coordinator and take a tour.
Schedule – When will I be in class?
- Just 24 months to earn your associate in science degree in Surgical Technology – including your 3-month industry internship.
- Evening classes include a combination of on-site and on-line courses during the first 18 months.
- Final 6 months, including your industry internship, are daytime courses.
