Local teenage drivers put their skills to the test on the PTI campus Thursday, during  the Allegheny County Teen Safe Driving Competition.
Thirty local teenagers drove through traffic cones, parallel parked and checked cars for driving safety under the watchful eye of Pennsylvania Troopers.

“I really love being involved in this event,” said Renee Thomas who managed the event for PTI. “ It not only allows students to test their driving abilities but they also take away some important lessons.”

“ It’s is great to see how excited the students get working with the police officers” Ms. Thomas continued, “and  because of all the media coverage, they can have a positive impact on the community.”  “ We have hosted this event at PTI for the past 5 years and it continues to get better and better!”

The event was sponsored by PennDOT, the Allstate Foundation, Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC and the Allegheny County Safe Driving Committee.
To enter the competition, students had to have clean driving records and many belonged to school organizations that supported the event.
The competition was covered by a number television stations and newspapers. To read their stories, follow the links below:
