PTI Displays Community Service Spirit in Expressions of Hope Art Show and Sale

It all started with a chance encounter over ice cream 10 years ago.  Now, the relationship between Pittsburgh Technical Institute and The Bradley Center makes sure that the boys and girls living at the behavioral healthcare and child welfare organization have ice cream, parties, presents, pizza and movie nights, and the opportunity “to learn and heal and grow” through art.

PTI students, faculty and staff spent the past six months working with The Bradley Center residents on art projects ranging from spray art and photography to jewelry and modge podge crafts to create nearly 200 pieces now on display in the Expressions of Hope Art Show and Sale at The Mall at Robinson in the PTI Showcase.

The pieces were created by Bradley residents who range in age from 6 to 18 under the helpful direction of the PTI community who put finishing touches on some of the art.

Expressions of Hope is a collaboration between PTI’s Community Service Department and the arts and craft program of The Bradley Center. “This is an opportunity to heal and express themselves in ways that maybe traditional talk therapy won’t do,” states Lisa Fox, CEO, The Bradley Center, when explaining how arts and crafts sessions provided by PTI students, faculty and staff help the boys and girls entrusted to the care of her organization.

Proceeds from the sale, which runs through July 30, 2014, go to The Bradley Center to fund future arts and crafts activities for the organization’s students.
