Hundreds of aspiring high school welders from area vocational-technical schools filled the Gallery on PTI’s campus for the American Welding Society Pittsburgh Chapter awards banquet on Friday, March 14, 2014.

Keynote speaker Mickey Holmes, manager of sports marketing for The Lincoln Electric Company, shared stories about his travels on the NASCAR, Indy Car, and IHRA circuits to promote his company’s welding equipment.  Holmes even visits the PBR circuit – Professional Bull Riders.

A highlight of the event was the special announcement of Jacque King as PTI’s Outstanding Student Award for the Welding Technology program.

Originally Jacque through he would satisfy his lifelong fascination with welding and simply add it to his list of accomplishments.  He took that step October 2013 when he started PTI’s Welding Technology program.

Jacque is familiar with the classroom environment; he spent several years teaching at the postsecondary level for a small, liberal arts college located in northwestern Pennsylvania before leaving to follow his dream.

He credits PTI’s knowledgeable, caring instructors and says their “encouragement motivates students to do their very best all day, every day, in every way.”  Jacque says, “I have met nothing but excellent instructors at PTI and I am overwhelmed by the outstanding educational opportunities PTI instructors offer each student entrusted in their care.”

“I can’t wait to get to school each day to learn something new from men who have paid their dues and are now giving us the benefit of their experience,” he explains.

Jacque would like to continue his welding education by pursuing an associate degree and take the steps necessary to become a Weld Inspector.
