Visions and Voices celebrates talent of 150 high school students,
36 awards announced at Saturday’s Opening Reception

Creativity and talent reign supreme at the fourth annual Visions and Voices High School Art Show running through March 24, 2006 , at The Gallery at North Fayette. One hundred and fifty students representing 24 high schools submitted 343 pieces of art in 7 categories. Pittsburgh Technical Institute (PTI) announced 36 awards at the Opening Reception held Saturday, February 25, 2006.

“It is extremely impressive to see the range of talent exhibited by the high school students who submitted work to this year’s show,” comments Susan Rosa, PTI Director of Visual Communications. “It is a testament to their individual talents and the inspiration they receive from their high school instructors.”

Top honor goes to Amanda Zemba, this year’s Best of Show winner. Amanda, a resident of Baldwin Borough and a student of Jane Riccardi at Baldwin High School , won $100 for her colored pencil illustration titled “Hagia Sophia.”

Seven students won Best of Category honors and $25 awards.

    Josh Lippert
    , a student of Jane Riccardi at Baldwin High School and a resident of Baldwin Borough, PA ; “A Community of Thoughts,” a wire mesh and wood sculpture
  • Ceramics:
    Devon Klingensmith
    , a student of Raquel Ratney at Lincoln High School and a resident of Ellwood City, PA; an untitled clay vase
  • Photography:
    Kaela Speicher, a student of Jim Nagle at Seneca Valley High School and a resident of Harmony, PA; “Josie’s Room,” color photo
  • Computer Graphics:
    Megan Brown, a student of Diane Leeson at Columbiana County Career and Technical Center and a resident of Youngstown, OH; “Serena,” digital media
  • Metalworking:
    Ashley Curtis, a student of Joann Virgi at Ambridge High School and a resident of Ambridge, PA;
    “Jewelry to Wear,” metal and paper jewelry
  • Computer Aided Drafting:
    Jeremy Matta, a student of Jack Kovach at Central Westmoreland Career and Technical Center ;
    “Key,” a CAD drawing
