Concept Car Competition and Scholarship 2012
Two years ago students designed and built an all-purpose vehicle. Last year students introduced Harley's first ever car. What's in store for 2012? This year's students are asked to help Ford, Chrysler, General Motors reintroduce their brands in 2017.
Important dates and deadlines:
Registration deadline: January 27, 2012
Competition: May 2, 2012
Cash prizes awarded to winning teams!
Here is the Concept Car 2012 challenge:
The year is 2017 and the Federal government has mandated an annual 50-gallon per person ration on gasoline consumption resulting in the demise of some automobile brands. Chrysler is set to re-introduce Plymouth. General Motors is preparing to launch new Pontiac and Saturn companies. And Ford is hoping a new Mercury will succeed.
Your team must design a vehicle that represents and reflects the vision of one of these brands: Plymouth, Pontiac, Saturn or Mercury. It must appeal to the consumer; it must be attractive, functional, efficient and affordable. It must be 90% recyclable and incorporate good environmental principles.
Your design will be introduced at the 2015 New York Auto Show. Full production begins January 2016 with cars hitting showrooms in April 2016.
For the competition, your team must provide the following information. - Rubric Chart.
- Set of fully dimensioned 2D drawings showing both sides, top, front, and back views of the 2017 concept vehicle.
- A 3D computer generated, or physical scale model of your 2017 concept vehicle.
- A one-page, typed marketing plan describing your concept vehicle and to whom it will be marketed.
- A window sticker describing your concept vehicle's price, standard features, and options.
- A one-page typed Team Process describing your team's hurdles, major decision points, and accomplishments.
- A sample advertisement – either an 8.5" x 11" poster or a 30-second recorded radio spot highlighting the vehicle and its brand power.
