CAD Week

Check out what happened during CAD week last year down below!

Gravity Cars
Gravity Cars Gravity Cars Gravity Cars Gravity Cars Gravity Cars

The Gravity Car Project:

First-year students tackle the task of designing and building gravity-powered vehicles using mechanical computer aided drafting skills. In just 11 weeks teams must identify a concept, complete working drawings, build the vehicle, and prepare it to race down a 550-foot track and maneuver 90-degree turns while a timing device records its speed.

Melon Drop

The “Melon Drop” project:

As part of their Introduction to Mechanical Drafting course, students design, create working drawings, build, then drop a device containing a ripe cantaloupe from the roof. The challenge is to protect the melon from the 53-foot fall. Not as easy as it sounds!

Bridge Breaking

Bridge Breaking Project:

Tight specifications! Weight: 1 oz. or less. Length: 24 inches. Height: 4 inches. Width: 2 inches. Second-year students must build a bridge that can support 150 lbs. using only 8 sticks of balsa wood in their Statics and Strengths class.

Hovercraft

The Hovercraft project:

PTI students take to air travel. At the end of their second year CAD students must create a vessel that travels across the ground on a bed of air. In this capstone project, they must design the vessel, complete its working drawings, build the vessel -- and ride it!
