One Graphic Design and thirteen Multimedia students, along with one staff and four faculty members, recently participated in Pittsburgh’s 48 Hour Film Project – a wild weekend writing, shooting, editing and scoring their very own movie.
Beginning Friday, June 6, 2008, the team from PTI and more than 25 other individuals and groups were given a character, prop, and line of dialogue to incorporate into their film along with a designated genre. This year’s competition included:
Character: Alex or Alexis Foyt, Hotel Employee
Prop: a Checkbook
Line of Dialogue: "Do you have what it takes?"
Our team, Suburban Hobo Productions, drew from a hat to select "romance" as their genre. The film starred Library office assistant Mary Fistler (as Alexis Foyt) and instructors Frank Schurter, Graphic Design/Multimedia, and July Patterson, Information Technology. The challenge to complete the film in 48 hours was met with the complete, though rough, work titled "Hello, my name is…"
While the initial "Best of Pittsburgh" films did not include PTI in the rankings, PTI found success in the event through graduate, Steve Chabassol (Multimedia, October 2006) whose team, Pinkerton Killers, landed in the Best of Pittsburgh for "Complications."
