PTI Student Ambassadors

Visiting campus is a great way to get to know a school. It helps you get a feel for the environment, the interaction between instructors and students, the local community, even the food in the cafeteria.

But the real personality of a school is its students. Michelle, Kaitlyn, and Hannah greet many of our visitors. You may have the opportunity to talk to one when you visit PTI's North Fayette Campus. Before you come, here's a chance to get to know each of them a little better.

Visit to meet PTI's Student Ambassador and learn a little bit about them!

Student Ambassador - Michelle
April Major: Surgical Technology
Hometown: Chaneysville, PA
Expected Graduation: July 2012
Dog or cat person: "Dog, definitely. I have a cat but she’s not very loving – only when she wants to be. Dogs offer companionship; they’re always there." Michelle has a black lab named Buddy, and an English setter named Titus.

After high school Michelle enrolled at a local four-year school to study nursing but felt like she was in 13th grade – still in school with everyone from her hometown – so she decided she needed to get away and start fresh.

She chose a healthcare profession for the job security knowing people will always be needed to provide personal care to others. After graduating she hopes to move a little closer to home and work in a children's hospital.

Michelle loves how hands-on everything is at PTI, especially the surg tech lab that is set up like a real operating room. She finds it easier to learn when she can see the actual equipment in front of her. Outside of class, she can be found relaxing in her on-campus housing apartment often reading teen fiction or watching TV. She once downloaded five seasons of "Criminal Minds" and watched every episode back-to-back!

You can be sure to check out housing and the various labs on campus when you’re touring with Michelle.

Student Ambassador - Kaitlyn
Ashley Major: Computer Aided Drafting – Mechanical Drafting
Hometown: Ipswich, MA
Expected Graduation: July 2012
Dog or cat person: Dog. "They’re more playful. I used to have a cat that wasn’t very friendly." She is the proud owner of Shelby, a Jack Russell Terrier, and Bandit, a Lhasa Apso.

A Google search for design schools led Kaitlyn to PTI and her first campus visit clinched the decision. She was most impressed with the student housing and by how helpful and informative everyone was during the enrollment process. "Other schools just didn’t try as hard – they didn’t seem as interested in me."

Kaitlyn studied architectural drafting at a trade school while in high school spending up to six hours a day on the subject. Now she’s focusing on mechanical drafting and hopes to someday continue her education to become an engineer. When she's not in class she likes to explore Pittsburgh but notes that she doesn't have to go far. "Everything is close by – it's all right here."

Kaitlyn likes to point out the computer labs on campus while giving tours. "They're huge and you can always get whatever you need to do done," she says. She'll also likely use her architectural background to talk about the unique design of PTI's academic building.

Student Ambassador - Hannah
Hannah Major: Hospitality Management Administration - Travel and Tourism
Hometown: Beverly, MA
Expected Graduation: October 2012
Dog or Cat Person: Dog. "I'm allergic to cats." She has a Shih-Tzu named Sophie. "I miss her terribly."

In an online search for schools outside Massachusetts offering travel degrees, Hannah came across PTI. As an only child she is close to her parents and knew she needed to find out what it was like to be on her own. "It's tough, but I like it," she says.

The open door policy of PTI's instructors played a big part in Hannah's decision to attend PTI. Since she's been a student, she can say it's not just a policy, it's "extremely true."

Having grown up traveling on multiple cruises and trips to Disney World, Hannah chose a career in travel and tourism because she wants people to enjoy traveling as much as she does. "It made my childhood that much better," she explains. Her future plans include returning to the Beverly-area, not far from Boston, to be a travel agent.

When touring with Hannah, she'll show you the numerous computer labs, and point out the stairs – something she didn't discover until her second quarter as a student! Ask her to tell you a joke..."I like to think I'm the funniest person in the world. I tell terrible jokes and usually I'm laughing hysterically while everyone else is just laughing because it was so bad!"
